This site is a tribute to a great man,
my great grandfather, Alfredo Jahn. Born on October 8th 1867 in
Caracas, Venezuela, died July 12, 1940. Alfredo Jahn Hartmann
(in Venezuela the mother's maiden name is used as a second last
name) was a famous man in Venezuela, known to many as
Papa Jahn. The third largest
cave in Venezuela was named after him. He is listed by the
Smithsonian as one who collected plant specimens for the
Smithsonian's Department of Botany.
He was also a mountain climber and mounted an expedition to Pico Bolivar in the Venezuelan Sierra Nevada mountains in 1910.
